string holder in the form of a Pail /bucket made from wood with a wire handle through 2 metal eyes , Its painted green with a black band round the top. on the lid in hand written it reads Poitiers which is a city in west-central France and further down to the side the initials AD.
There is some age related wear to the paint and some paint loss especially to the underside . no damage to the wood itself.
